Would you ever recruit a cybercriminal in your security team ?

This was the question asked in the Wisdom of Crowd event in london from execute participants . 

And of course the answers were as interesting as the question itself .

The first post pandemic Wisdom of crowd event was organized recently by cyber experts . This wisdom of crowd event showed the true reflection of spirit , energy and evolving mindset of the cyber security community . 

Many such events are organized every year but are highly scripted . Wisdom of Crowd is known for its spontaneous discussion . 



The CEO and CO founder cybersecurity management alliance   Amar singh led the discussion .


As the post pandemic event Ammar choose a question that is really conflicting yet interesting . And the audience were asked to answer beyond the limits . The question was " Would you ever recruit a cybercriminal in your security team ? "

The participant splitted into groups . Some in favor while other against the question as expected . 

Well this question was not as easy to answer . Let see in detail was the executive attendees comeup with :

Some executive said that they will never hire a cybercriminal in there team . The reasons they come up with are given below :

1 : Reputational Harm 

Some said that hiring a cybercriminal is like dealing with two twin ends of a wedge . There are several advantages like he is experienced but he can create a problem in future like Blackmailing you  .

2: Ethnic and Integrity 

The point of ethnic and integrity came up many times . Apart from publicity , is it would be good for a grownup cyber security business to give access to an expert with criminal record ? 

3: Internal Justification 

Every company has a board member and can't just implement someone there . How would you justify that this cybercriminal is good for your company . Apart from this would the human resource management HR approve if they do , so its a high negative view of HR .

4: Insurance Risk

The question araised  during discussion was Is hiring a cyber criminal is a risk to insurance .

5: Cost Benefit 

A cybercriminal always look for cost benefits , so participants asked Is it right to hire someone who is against business .



However there were some attendees at the Wisdom of Crowd event who vocally approved hiring of cybercriminal personality in their business . What they argued are given below :

1 : The massive shortage of high skilled experts in cyber security field .
2 : Since a cybercriminal has some skills more than a normal hacker so they said it would be nice if he shares his skills and educate the cyber experts . This way cyber security can grow more .
3: Cybercriminal knows how cybercriminals think , if he gives you the guideline you can do security even much better . 


Well  its hard to come to any conclusion but one thing proved until now is the question and the answers are really interesting .

Let me give you an example :
There was once cybercriminal FBI's most wanted cybercriminal Kevin and is now a consultant at Fortune 500 organization as well as governments across the world. 

So how these governments are ready to hire Kevin but not other cybercriminals ?

This remians a mistery till now .
